Jazz Supper Club – John Morrison All Stars

Saturday 8 September 8pm

Wangaratta Uniting Church Hall

Swinging standards you know and love!

Drummer and big band leader John Morrison has delighted audiences for more than 25 years with his great sense of humour and dedication to sounds that swing. John has spent much of his music life playing and recording with his younger brother, world renowned trumpeter, James Morrison.

The John Morrison All Stars is a collaboration with some of John’s favourite musicians.

The piano player is Steve Senergreen, son of the legendary Bob Sedergreen, and also one of Melbourne’s jazz identities – known as a leading pianist, arranger of jazz projects and as an educator. Steve formed Mistaken Identity in 1985 while studying at the Victorian College of the Arts and led it through numerous incarnations. He has mentored The Cat Empire and was for seven years director and curator of Dizzy’s Jazz Club.

For this visit to Wangaratta the All Stars include the legendary trumpeter, John Hoffman, an American who performed with the likes of Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, and Woody Herman before moving to Australia. John established the Conservatorium big-band (The Con Artists) while teaching at Griffith University. Tony Gould has described John as having “the imagination, the creative force, and the extraordinary musical talent to bring it all together”.

Award-winning vocalist, Jacki Cooper and bassist James Clark are great additions to the mix.
