Luke Andresen – drums

Pianist and composer Kade Brown completed jazz piano studies at Monash University and has been a participant and mentor at the Juilliard Winter Jazz School. He currently collaborates frequently with many of Melbourne’s finest musicians in traditional and contemporary jazz styles. In recent years Kade has performed and recorded in Europe and the USA. His compositional style is heavily influenced by Australian jazz artists such as Barney Mcall and Andrea Keller, and contemporary Australian art music composers such as Ross Edwards, Nigel Westlake and Elena Kats-Chernin.

Kade has released two records in the jazz piano trio format, and currently leads a quintet with Australian jazz veterans Julien Wilson (saxophone), Paul Williamson (trumpet), Sam Anning (bass) and Luke Andresen (drums). Since its beginnings in late 2015, Kade has used the quintet as a creative vehicle to explore his compositions, whilst encouraging the raw character and intensity that each performer contributes to dynamic ensemble interplay.

The intense beauty of the landscapes of the far south coast of NSW around Kade Brown’s hometown is the inspiration for his multi-award-winning suite Frictions , presented by the quintet accompanied by projected time-lapse photography of these landscapes. The quintet will also play Australian jazz standards by Bernie McGann, Allan Browne and others.
