The next Wangaratta Women in Leadership Breakfast guest speaker will be Kerrie Hicks, Police Inspector & Wangaratta Local Area Commander.
Kerrie joined Victoria Police in 2001 and shortly after promoted to Detective at the Melbourne CIU. She then went on to become Sergeant at Melbourne West Police Station in 2011 where as Family Violence Liaison Officer developed a strong passion for preventing violence against women and children.
In 2014 Kerrie was promoted to Senior Sergeant followed on by Station Commander at Collingwood Police Station and Detective Senior Sergeant at Melbourne SOCIT prior to being promoted to Inspector. In December 2016, Kerrie commenced as Wangaratta Local Area Commander, an area prone to bushfire and flood, presenting considerable Emergency Management challenges. Rural policing has proven to be one of the most rewarding roles Kerrie has held in Victoria Police. Rural policing presents an incredible opportunity to work collaboratively with the community to achieve community safety objectives. She is particularly proud of the work currently being undertaken with the Local Drug Action Teams and in relation to suicide prevention.
Kerrie is passionate about building capability in our people. She is a steering committee member of the Advancing Local Leadership Forums, involved in a number of mentor programs and is a member of The Next Step working group.
She has completed a Bachelor of Arts (Criminology), Graduate Diploma of Business (Management), Graduate Certificate in Fraud Investigation in 2011, and Graduate Certificate in Applied Management (Policing and Emergency Services).
