Steinway on Stage with Ignatius Corboy

Wednesday 18 March 6pm

Ignatius Corboy has presented a variety of Steinway on Stage recitals in past years to the delight of large audiences. He has a memorably flamboyant style for classical and other piano works. Ignatius was (as are currently some of his siblings) taught piano by Heather Miles.

This recital honours the memory of the late Betty Williams, a close friend of Ignatius, who he describes as ‘like a grandmother’. One of the last things that Betty requested not long before she died late last year, was for Ignatius to play for her.

His program includes works from Bach (Prelude in C) to Jimmy Durente and John Williamson, including I’ll be seeing you, Woman of the Land, A whiter shade of pale, Danny Boy, The American National Anthem, Amazing Grace, Legends of the Fall, Auld Lang Syne, You’re always on my mind and Waltzing Matilda.

Steinway on Stage is a series of intimate twilight concerts which feature Wangaratta’s magnificent Steinway Grand Piano. Audiences are gathered around it on the stage of the Alpine MDF Theatre. This program has been a partnership between Wangaratta Arts Council and Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre since 2010.
